How Alpha AI Works: From Question to Finished Work
Alpha AI is an all-in-one AI app being built at alphaai.site. If you have already read our short guide, What is Alpha AI?, you know the big picture: one workspace for chat, research, writing, images, code and automation. This post goes one level deeper. It explains how Alpha AI works as designed for launch, step by step, from the moment you type a question to the moment you have something finished in your hands.
One thing to say up front: Alpha AI is in early access and is opening in waves. Everything below describes how the app is designed to work at launch. It is not a description of a tool you can open today.
The idea behind how Alpha AI works
Most people who use AI today keep several tabs open: one for questions, one for pictures, one for code, one for the news. Alpha AI is designed to replace that juggling with a single flow. You ask in plain words, Alpha AI does the work, and you use the result. That is the whole loop, and every part of the app is built around it.
Step 1: Ask, or pick a studio
At launch, you will start in one of two ways.
Type what you need
The simplest path is to write a request in normal language, the way you would ask a helpful colleague. For example: “Summarize this week’s biggest tech headlines” or “Explain how compound interest works, with an example.”
Jump straight into a studio
If you already know what kind of work you want, you will be able to open a dedicated studio. Alpha AI is planned around twelve studios that share one workspace, including:
- Alpha Chat for questions and research with live sources
- Alpha Image, Video, Music and Voice for creative work
- Writing Studio for blog posts, emails, ad copy and scripts
- Document Chat for asking questions about a PDF
- Alpha Code for generating, debugging and reviewing code
- Agents and Automation for multi-step and repeating tasks
- News & Markets and Health & Patents for staying informed
Because the studios share one workspace, you should not need to copy and paste between separate apps.
Step 2: Alpha AI does the work
Once you ask, Alpha AI is designed to pick up the task and carry it out. What happens depends on the job.
Answers that show their sources
For facts, news and anything current, Alpha Chat is being built to check live sources while it writes and to show where its facts come from. The goal is simple: you should be able to open the source and see for yourself, instead of taking an answer on trust. That matters for anyone who needs to cite what they read.
The right model for the job
Alpha AI is being built around a family of Alpha models. A default model, Alpha 0.5, is planned for chat with live sources, and specialist models are planned for jobs like step-by-step reasoning, writing, translation and code. You can read what each one is meant for on the Alpha AI models page.
Creating, not just answering
Some requests need a file rather than a reply. At launch, the creative studios are designed to turn a sentence into a picture, a short clip, a piece of music or natural-sounding speech, and the coding studio is designed to produce code you can run.
Step 3: Use the result
The last step is where the work leaves the app. Depending on the task, you will be able to copy an answer, download a file, run the code, or schedule an automation to repeat. A weekly research briefing, for instance, is the kind of task the Automation studio is meant to handle: you describe it once, and it runs on a schedule.
A simple example of the Alpha AI flow
Here is how one task could move through Alpha AI once it launches:
- You ask Alpha Chat for an overview of a topic and read the answer with its sources.
- You upload a related PDF to Document Chat and ask follow-up questions.
- You open Writing Studio and turn your notes into a blog post draft in the tone you choose.
- You ask Alpha Image for a header picture to go with it.
What Alpha AI will not do
Being clear about limits is part of how we work. Alpha AI will never ask you to connect a crypto wallet, claim tokens or send cryptocurrency. Right now, the only thing the website asks for is your email address, and only if you choose to join the waitlist. You can learn more about who we are on the About Alpha AI page.
How to get access
Alpha AI is opening access in waves. During early access, Alpha AI is free, and paid plans will be announced before launch so you know what they include before anything changes. The details are on the pricing page.
